Getting Traction!

Gary-and-Bernie-T-shirts02It seems as though adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse have been getting some traction in the court of public opinion. The latest round of indictments from Philadelphia (Click here for info) combined with Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown's decision to speak about his own abuse, (Click here for details) has helped raise awareness and by doing so, educate the public as well.

Almost a decade ago when survivors in Massachusetts began speaking, the thoughts of grand indictments or personal stories from survivors who were public elected officials were unheard of. The survivor community knew that there should be indictments, and we knew that there were politicians who were also survivors. The general public wasn't ready for either. That has begun to change.

As survivors, we have learned that “It’s progress not perfection”. We think that we've made some progress, but we know that we have a long way to go.  We thank Senator Scott Brown for adding his voice to the 60 million
(Click here for stats) American adult survivors living in the United States. We also thank every survivor who has come before him for adding their voice and continue to urge others to start the journey of self empowerment .

It’s about progress not perfection. It’s also about time!

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Gary Bergeron & Bernie McDaid

41 thousand news articles in 24 hours: Interview w/Gary Bergeron re: Reformation Day 2010 and Vatican meeting that followed.

City of Angels Blog interview with Gary Bergeron about the Reformation Day event

“Lombardi seemed uncomfortable during the whole meeting," said Gary Bergeron of Survivors Voice. "I think that fear surrounds this subject from both sides, a fear so real and so visceral that it's tough for people to sit down and just have a conversation about it. And I honestly think the only way that progress is going to be made is for those conversations to be had."

Bergeron said there were “41 thousand news articles in 24 hours" about the the Survivors Voice march in Rome last October that led to the meeting with Federico Lombardi, Vatican spokesman. Survivors Voice organized Reformation Day in St. Peter's Square to bring attention to hundreds of thousands of victims of pedophile Catholic priests worldwide who continue to seek justice. “Every major news outlet in every major country had an article about this event,” Bergeron added. “They told us this was the first time any event like this was being covered in Rome. The European press are much more aggressive than the U.S. press to begin with.”

CofA: WILL YOU BE AT ST. PETER’S SQUARE IN 2011?

GB: Well, we're going to apply for the same permit and see where they put us.” Read Entire Interview

Our mission

Build public awareness of the plague of childhood sexual abuse, which has occurred and is still occurring, not just in the Catholic Church, but in other institutions and homes, all over the world.

Require  the Vatican to accept responsibility for the actions of its pedophile priests,  make amends to survivors of clergy sexual abuse, adopt a zero tolerance policy concerning sexual abuse by its priests, and create secular extensive outreach & support system for past and future survivors of clergy sexual abuse.

Build awareness of childhood sexual abuse with legislators and call for stricter laws which will result in consistent and significantly harsher punishment for those convicted of the offense.

Creation of a publicly funded perpetual multimedia campaign designed to educate parents and children about childhood sexual abuse.

Engage with other like-minded organizations, media and government in a cooperative effort to rid the world of the scourge of childhood sexual abuse.
